We have a long tradition of hospitality. The following is an interesting review of the Hotel & Restaurant ‘Haus am See’.
History
It is one of the best-known and certainly oldest restaurants in Ferch. The ‘Haus am See’ hotel and restaurant, located directly on Lake Schwielowsee, has been welcoming guests for more than 100 years.
The main house with kitchen wing was built in 1900 by the painter Göbel. When he ran into financial difficulties, he opened a small guesthouse.
Göbel sells his house by the lake to Arthur Jacobi, who begins the first extension and remodelling shortly afterwards. He built halls for rainy days and holidays and opened a summer restaurant with a large terrace. His loyal cook, Mr Schulze, who worked for him every summer, was later given the restaurant as a gift out of gratitude. In 1970, at the age of 65, Mr Schulze began looking for a successor.
At the time, Mrs Wilke was a guest at Haus am See for the first time. When she heard about the sale, she was thrilled and decided to sell her brewery in Brandenburg to start a new life in Ferch. The Wilke family kept the pub in private hands with much love and patience. This was not always easy in GDR times.
After the death of her parents in 1978, daughter Brigitte Stein, née Wilke, took over the restaurant. She learnt the profession of chef and became a successful restaurant manager with the support of the family.
A hotel was then built in April 1993. The halls could not be used as they had become dilapidated. The hotel now has 21 rooms, including 15 double rooms and 6 single rooms. The restaurant has about 150 seats and about 180 seats in the garden. The Hotel & Restaurant ‘Haus am See’ is still run and appreciated by the 4th generation of the Stein-Jährmann family.
